The state tree of Kansas is Cottonwood. The state seal of Kansas contains a landscape where a rising sun represents the east, and a river and a steamboat represents commerce. In the foreground, there is a settler’s cabin and a man is seen plowing a field, and this represents agriculture. A wagon train heads west and buffalo are seen fleeing from two Indians. At the top of the seal there is a cluster of 34 stars that represents the rank of the state in the Union. The motto of the state appears above the group of stars.
